Steak Sandwiches

After a long day of gardening, the chef was given the night off, and we enjoyed steak sandwiches, made from yesterday’s leftovers.
Then, just as we were finishing dinner, the unmistakable sound of the ice cream truck filled the air. The chef bought us each a soft ice cream cone, and it was even sweeter than [...]

Beef Tenderloin With Vegetables

As a memorable ending to the week, the chef barbecued beef tenderloin and mushrooms, and served them with steamed cauliflower, broccoli and asparagus, and microwaved potatoes. As usual, it was delicious, and the beef was grilled to perfection! Thanks to the chef, who managed to prepare a wonderful dinner, despite being exhausted from a day [...]

BLTs With Cole Slaw

Bacon was on sale this week, so tonight the chef made BLTs (Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato sandwiches). Already the tomatoes are tasting a bit better than the winter ones. With crusty French bread, romaine lettuce, crispy bacon and tasty tomatoes, the sandwiches were delicious.
On the side, I made tangy cole slaw, using a bag of [...]

Chef’s Salad

Tonight the chef prepared a lovely Chef’s Salad (how appropriate!). It was originally billed as a Cobb Salad, but this was a healthier version, without the bacon, avocado and cheese. Then we thought it might be a Julienne Salad, but I’ve settled on Chef’s Salad, based on extensive research (2 minutes of Googling).
No matter what [...]

Spaghetti With Meat Sauce

It was another beautiful day, but much cooler than yesterday (11°C), so the chef warmed us up with some of his world famous spaghetti with meat sauce.
He started with canned tomato sauce, and added browned ground beef, seasonings, onions, celery and more seasonings. The sauce simmered for about an hour, then was served over cooked [...]

Tee Time

The chef is at a golf tournament today, and enjoying the luxury of someone else cooking dinner. And probably a fancy dinner too! I’ve already called dibs on any prizes that are brought home, except for the golf related items.
So, left to my own devices, I either prepared pheasant under glass, or a cheese sandwich  [...]

Lazy Sunday Snacks

We visited Black Creek Pioneer Village today, and stopped for a late lunch at South St. Burger on the way home. By dinner time we weren’t too hungry, so we snacked on hummus and some delicious naan bread. We bought ours at the Real Canadian Superstore, but if you were adventurous you could make your own:

Souvlaki and Salad

An impulse purchase on a recent grocery shopping trip was pork souvlaki, and that was tonight’s supper. The chef grilled them to perfection, and we had sliced microwaved potatoes and tossed salad on the side. The weather was perfect, and it was great to enjoy some time on the back deck while dinner cooked. The [...]

Burgers With Grilled Vegetables

Today the chef brought home ground beef and hamburger buns, and whipped up some delicious burgers for the barbecue tonight. With them, he grilled asparagus and sliced mushrooms. It was a great meal for the end of a long week, and a lovely evening to sit on the deck, watching the food cook.

Tilapia With Risotto

Tonight the chef made a lovely meal of grilled tilapia with wild mushroom risotto. The tilapia was marinated for a couple of hours in lemon slices and dill, then grilled for about five minutes.
Meanwhile, he prepared some President’s Choice Wild Mushroom Risotto and tossed salad. The risotto was easy to prepare, and just needed regular [...]
