Maple Flavoured Syrup

Yesterday, the chef made French toast for our brunch, with thick slices of bread, dipped in egg, and pan fried to just the right crispiness. We added a little drizzle of maple syrup on top, just for extra flavour.

We were lucky to have a jug of Canadian maple syrup in the fridge, and you can’t beat that for taste. When I was growing up, Mom used to make maple flavoured syrup, which is much more cost effective, and tastes pretty good.

Here’s the old family recipe, for those emergencies when you run out of maple syrup, or can’t afford a new jug.

Maple Flavoured Syrup

  • 2 cups white sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 3/4 tsp maple flavouring

Mix all ingredients in large saucepan. Over medium heat, heat mixture to boiling, then remove from heat.

Can be served warm, or cool and store in the refrigerator.
