Weekly Meal Plan 20161231

Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed the holidays, and all the best to you for a happy and successful 2017. My year is starting with a nasty head cold (unless it magically disappears at midnight), so I’ve put spicy food on the menu for next week, to see if that will help.

On New Year’s Day, we’ll have a ham steak and scalloped potatoes, which is our traditional meal for that day. Since it’s just the two of us, we certainly won’t need a big baked ham!

After that, the week is filled with simple and spicy meals, to help ward off the germs, and to cure what ails me.

The Weekly Plan

Here is our plan for the week starting Sunday, Jan 01, 2017. There are links for some recipes, and others are made “freestyle”.

Sunday — Ham Steak

Monday Chicken Thighs in Hot Sauce

Tuesday Chinese Longevity Soup (see picture below)

Wednesday — Ravioli Puttanesca

Thursday — Quesadillas

Friday — Beans & Wieners

Saturday Salisbury Steak

How It Actually Went

Here’s what we actually had this week. It was a New Year’s miracle – we actually followed the menu plan for the entire week! Maybe we were so tired out from the holidays, that we didn’t have the energy to think of any alternatives! And I’ve been sick with a cold, that might have evolved into pneumonia – waiting to hear back from the doctor.

It’s been almost a year since we had the Chinese Longevity Soup, and we really enjoyed it again. Keith got all the ingredients ready, and I cooked it. There is a picture below, so you can see what it looked like. It was very tasty, and I hope it had some health benefits too!
